SC Wave Waukesha SELECT PROGRAM OVERVIEW
To provide SC Wave players with the opportunity to improve their soccer skills in order to play and achieve success at the highest competitive levels.
TEAM STRUCTURE
SC Wave Waukesha will offer select teams for boys and girls beginning at the U-11 age level and ending at the U-19 age level. Teams will be given an A, B, or C designation. The number of players trying out and coaching availability will determine if there is a C or third team or not.
The purpose of the A select team program is to provide instruction, skill development and competition to those players who possess a higher level of soccer skills and a desire to play at this level. Players and parent commitment to the team, practices, games, etc., are much higher than at any other level.
The purpose of the B or C select team program is to provide an opportunity for players to learn and compete at the select level. The expectation for each player at this level is to improve their individual skills in order to help the team compete at an appropriate level and perhaps gain enough skills to move up a level at the next tryout year.
TRYOUTS
Tryouts are held to choose each team at the select level. These tryouts for select teams are held annually, generally in June and will be the responsibility of the Director of Coaching and Player Development. Exact dates will be determined and published on the website and local newspapers.
Both the Boys and Girls Select Directors and other Co-Directors may be in attendance and observe these tryouts. The Director of Player and Coaching Development, along with assigned evaluators, will assume responsibility for selecting players to teams. All efforts will be made to insure that these evaluators will be experienced soccer personnel who are generally not personally acquainted with the players trying out for the team. Players are not guaranteed a position on any team simply because they played on that team last year.
Parents are advised to leave the field on which the tryouts are taking place.
Players will participate in an organized session of technical drills, tactical exercises and small-sided games. These sessions are designed to test each player's technical abilities and skill and will serve to help them distinguish themselves from all the other players. They also help the evaluators in choosing the best players.
The team coach will be present at the tryout and act as an advisor to the evaluators. However, the evaluators will make the final decisions. SC Waukesha will notify all players trying out of their selection status at the deadline set by WYSA.
PLAYING TIME/ CHANGING TEAMS
The SC Wave Select program has no rule concerning playing time. Each coach has the right to award playing time based upon player skills, game situations, player attitude, conduct on and off the field and attendance at practice and games.
The only time that players change teams is during the tryout period. Once teams have been chosen, concerns regarding players changing teams should be addressed with the Director of Player and Coaching Development. Only the SC Waukesha Boys and Girls Select Directors may determine if a player should be allowed to change teams at any other time. The State Association has also developed guidelines and policies for transfers from one club to another. Please see the state association website for transfer policies.
TEAM COMPOSITION
SC Wave U11 - U12 teams may carry up to 15 players, U13 to U-14 teams may carry up to18 players, U15 and higher level teams may carry as many as 22 players. SC Wave will employ the use of club passes to develop younger players, enhance team numbers when the need arises and to help teams remain competitive in their league placements.
SELECT PLAYER EXPECTATIONS
SC Wave recognizes the diversity in players and skill levels in the make up of its soccer teams. It also takes different levels of commitment that some parents and players may not be accustomed to fulfilling. Belonging to an SC Waukesha Select team is more than a casual commitment.
SC Wave believes in academics before club activities. Once involved with a SC Wave team players can be expected to participate in two or three practices per week, seven to ten regular season games, three to five tournaments per season, and an indoor session. High school aged students who only participate in half a year club soccer season along with indoor are the only exception.
SC Wave encourages all players at the select level to compete in more than one sport. We believe this will enhance their overall athletic ability and love for the game of soccer. However, all club-organized activities take precedent over all other non-high school sports.
INDOOR SOCCER/FUTSAL GUIDELINES
All SC Wave teams are encouraged to participate in indoor soccer/futsal during the winter months. These leagues and training should be used to develop player technical skills and support team concepts for the outdoor season. The SC Wave also encourages everyone to use the SC Wave name when participating in indoor soccer/futsal sessions.
YELLOW AND RED CARDS
Receiving a yellow or red card in a game is a serious issue at SC Wave. The issuing of yellow and red cards are used to maintain control of the game. A yellow card from the referee is used as a warning and the player may or may not have to leave the field of play until the next available substitution. A second yellow card in one game is equal to a red card ejection a red card is a more severe penalty and means that the player or coach must leave the game and playing area immediately and cannot play or coach in the next game. The club reserves the right to additionally penalize those receiving red cards for more than just one game.
